First thing to note is that the Spot is a step down from the Dot (5th Gen, anyway) in terms of sound. Which shouldn't be a surprise, given the integration of a crystal clear, touch screen. As far as I can see the Spot is intended more as a bedside clock/radio, whereas the Dot is solely a smart speaker focused on delivering sound (which it does exceptionally well for its size). Like all Echo devices, it's a breeze to set up and (providing you select the option at purchase) comes connected to your account and even your Wi-Fi (well, automatic connection during the setup process, anyway). The screen is small but beautiful and, crucially, functions very well as a bed side clock - with little to no backlight visible and the clock digits clearly visible on a dark background. It has a night mode which can be set (along with a limited number of clock faces/colours) via the Alexa app. This dims the display and effectively eliminates any light pollution in a darkened room. Touch works well also. The sound is more than adequate for its intended use, with equalisation available via the Alexa app. The device is compact and pleasing to the eye. This really is an excellent evolution of the Dot and stands shoulder to shoulder with the best Echo products.

Great device and easy to set up with my other alexa devices. The sound is great and it looks good on my bedside cabinet. Not too big unlike my previous radio alarm. Love the night mode. The dull red doesn't keep you awake at night and doesn't fill the room with light. Again unlike my previous radio alarm. My only negative is it won't let me set BBC Radio as an alarm sound. I can get other radio such as Greatest Hits. I can play Radio 2 through BBC Sounds and set a routine as an alarm with it but it wakes you up to"playing radio 2 from BBC sounds" then the radio, which I find slightly annoying. The most convenient alarm clock and countdown timer. This replaced an Echo Dot on my bedside table as it does everything the Dot did but also displays the time and date which does not need to be changed once connected to wi-fi. I ask Alexa to set my alarm, snooze, give me the weather forecast and news headlines and the device does it without issue. If I want an afternoon nap, I just ask Alexa for a 1 hour timer. No more fiddling with buttons to set the time or alarm. No more needing to remember about putting the clock forward or back in March and October either. Screen quality is sharp and dims well at night. I find the sound quality good although I don’t use it for music. Not sure I’d pay £80 but I got it for £55 on promo which seemed good value for money.
